Responsibilities of the Elders
Elders are responsible for devoting themselves to prayer and the Word, giving oversight to the church through “Feeding”, “Fending” and “Fighting for the Joy” for the church. Some of the primary duties of the Elders are…
- walking petitioning members through the membership process and assisting them in understanding of the Statement of Faith and the Church Membership Covenant
- giving oversight and direction of all matters of church discipline
- giving direction and conducting worship services
- examining prospective candidates for the offices of elder and deacon
- teaching the scripture in all settings, in and out of season, in all environments at all times
- scheduling and moderating member meetings
- serving as secretary for member meetings and providing recording of business to the church office for recording
- overseeing the church membership and giving oversight to all ministry leaders, teams, support staff and Deacons
- coordinating the ministries of the church
- administering the ordinances of the gospel; the Lord’s Supper and Baptism
- correcting error including protecting the flock from heresy and idolatry
- equipping the membership of the church for the work of the ministry
- equipping and mobilizing the church for missions
Men called as Elders at FBCN shall be qualified for the office as specified in Scripture (1 Timothy 3:1–7, Titus 1:6–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–4) and in agreement with the Statement of Faith of FBCN.
